The Power of Mind (negative emotions)

Studies over the years have indicated that our mind influences the function of our body. The influence is controlled by the state of our emotion - Negative and Positive. The Negative emotions are depression, sorrow, fear, anger and stress. The positive emotions are joy, confidence, hope and peace.

Our body acts as we feel according to emotions. Depression upsets the functions of our digestive systems, causing dyspepsia and indigestion, lethargy and constipation.

Sorrow affects our nervous system, constricting the flow of nervous energy, causing organic disease.

Anger affects our circulatory systems, constricting the flow of blood throughout our body, including lungs and brain. Insomnia, lack of concentration, indigestion, flatulence and constipation are the result.

Fear affects our muscular system, lessening the flow of blood due to lack of muscular movement. It affects every muscle in our body, including our heart. Palpitations, diarrhea, involuntary flow of urine, sweating, poor vision, and lack of hearing inevitable.

Stress affects our respiratory system, thus our entire body. Breath is life, and when our respiratory is poor we only half live - physically, mentally and spiritually.

What is hepatitis B?

Hepatitis B is a virus which infects the liver. It is present in both the blood and body fluids of infected people.

Adults who are infected may have no symptoms or they may become ill. Symptoms may include fever, abdominal pain, dark urine, nausea and jaundice (yellow skin and eyes). After infection, most adults recover and become immune to the virus. A few people do not clear the virus. They become carriers and may infect other people.
Hepatitis B carriers

Carriers of hepatitis B have been infected and their immune system has not been able to clear the virus from the body.

Hepatitis B carriers may experience no health problems or over a period of years may develop liver disease such as cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver or liver cancer.

If you are a carrier of hepatitis B:

* have regular blood tests to check your liver
* drink as little alcohol as possible
* use condoms for sex unless you are sure your partners have been vaccinated against hepatitis B
* steady sex partners and people living in your household should be vaccinated against hepatitis B
* you should be tested for hepatitis A and vaccinated against it if the test shows that you are not already immune
* advise health care workers, including your dentist, that you are a carrier of hepatitis B
* do not donate blood, semen or other body organs or tissues.

How is hepatitis B transmitted?

Hepatitis B is spread by blood-to-blood contact or by having sex with an infected person. Oral sex may transmit hepatitis B, especially swallowing semen from an infected man.

A high risk for blood contact is the sharing of needles or equipment with injecting drug users, who may not know they are infectious.

Sharing razors or toothbrushes with an infectious person may spread the disease.

Health workers may be at risk by accidental needlestick injuries.

Women who are hepatitis B carriers may infect their babies around the time of birth. Since 2000, all babies are vaccinated soon after birth, reducing the risk of becoming carriers or contracting the infection later in life.

To prevent spreading or contracting the infection:

* do not share injecting drug equipment
* use condoms with sex partners
* do not share razors or toothbrushes
* do not allow your blood or body fluids to come into contact with others.

Are you at risk?

Most Australians are at low risk of contracting hepatitis B infection. However, some groups have a higher risk of infection.

These include:

* injecting drug users
* men who have sex with men
* sex partners of hepatitis B carriers
* sex workers
* Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders
* People of Asian racial background

Testing for hepatitis B

Hepatitis B infection can be diagnosed from a blood test. Different tests are available; you should discuss the results carefully with your doctor to make sure you understand what they mean.

Hepatitis B surface antigen is present in the blood of people who are infected with hepatitis B virus. Most adults will clear the virus from the body usually after several months to a year. If the hepatitis B virus is not cleared from the body (i.e. in carriers), the surface antigen remains positive for life.

Hepatitis B core antibody is present in the blood of people who have been infected with hepatitis B in the past. It is present in carriers of hepatitis B, but also in people who have cleared the virus from their body. If the surface antibody is negative, people with positive core antibody are immune to hepatitis B. They are not carriers and there is no risk of transmitting the virus to others or developing hepatitis B-related liver complications later.

Hepatitis B surface antibody is positive in people who have been exposed to hepatitis B previously but have cleared the virus from their body. It is also usually positive in people who have been vaccinated against hepatitis B. People who test positive for surface antibody are immune to hepatitis B or are vaccinated; they are not carriers.
Should you be vaccinated?

If you are in a high risk group, or are in a sexual relationship with a person in a high risk group, you should be vaccinated.

Clinic 275 offers vaccination if you or your regular sex partner(s) are in a high risk group.

In addition, people infected with hepatitis C virus may be offered vaccination (because hepatitis B infection may be more severe in these people).

Others at risk, such as health workers and people from countries where hepatitis B is common (e.g. Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Pacific Islands), should see their local doctor, council, or community health center for advice and vaccination.
What is vaccination?

Vaccination requires 3 injections over 6 months. You need to complete the course for full protection. If you do not return on time for a vaccination, the clinic can send you a reminder, if you choose. After a complete vaccination course, most people will be immune to hepatitis B for the rest of their life. Booster doses of vaccine are no longer recommended.

You should not be vaccinated when you have a high temperature. Wait until you are well.

Usually there is little reaction to the vaccine. However, some people have a sore arm at the vaccine site. A few people may have a headache, diarrhoea or simply feel unwell.

Results of vaccination

You will be protected against hepatitis B infection. If you come into contact with the hepatitis B virus, you will not become unwell, nor will you become a carrier of the virus.

You will not be protected against hepatitis C virus, hepatitis A virus, HIV, or any other sexually transmitted infection.

Man arrested following Cowra axe deaths
June 30, 2008, 9:49 pm (Yahoo7.com.au)

An elderly man suspected of killing his wife and two grandchildren in an axe attack that also left his police officer daughter with serious head injuries has been arrested.

A badly injured Senior Constable Shelley Walsh ran screaming to her neighbour's house in Brougham St at Cowra, in the NSW central west, shortly after 2pm (AEST) on Monday.

"The daughter was covered in blood and had a huge gash to the side of her head," neighbour Terry Lovett told AAP.

John Walsh, 69, went on the run before being arrested at about 8.15pm (AEST) on Monday night at Hay, in the NSW south-west.

He was arrested without incident while returning to his motel on the Great Western Highway, following a tip-off from the motel's owner.

It's not known if he was armed at the time of the arrest.

The children's father, who lives on the north coast of NSW, had been notified of the tragedy, and NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said police were "certainly concerned about his welfare because he has lost two children today".

He also said the incident's impact on the NSW Police Force had been "tremendous".

"This is probably one of the worst days in the history of the police family in NSW," Mr Scipione said.

Mr Lovett described his elderly neighbors as a quiet, retired couple who moved to town about 10 years ago from Sydney.

"Then a few years ago his son committed suicide ... and then after that, we did notice a bit of change in him. He was a bit quiet and didn't socialize much," he added.

"The only thing I can imagine there is, that I got the impression that he may have felt a bit burdened by looking after his grandkids."

The curtains were drawn at the modest weatherboard house, opposite the Cowra Croquet Club, as forensic officers scoured the crime scene.

Dozens of officers wearing bulletproof vests had earlier descended on the quiet street with their guns drawn.

The mayor of Cowra Council, Bruce Miller, said his close-knit community of 10,000 was reeling.

"We do all look out for each other and any incident that affects children is especially harsh," he said.

It's the second family tragedy in a week. Last Friday, the bodies of Gary Bell and his three children, 18-month-old Bon, five-year-old Maddie and seven-year-old Jack, were found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning on Friday inside a four-wheel drive on a remote property near Pericoe in southern NSW, in a murder-suicide.

Finally

Finally, Yesterday was the last day in my ETS class. The final essay question is "Consumerism is damaging society, Do you agree?"

Of Course i am agree. From the first time i see the question, i had an answer that consumerism is bad. I had used my best to do this exam, but i don't know what the result is. Hope that the result is not disappointing. Because, actually i am really disappointed with this class. My teacher is unfair and i don't think that they had done their best to teach students.

And on thursday, the result will publish in the University main board.

I don't care anymore, what ever i get, because i only need 50 to pass this class. Even that i get more than 50 this class is also useless..

I want to invite cherry and my little brother (Jackson) to Nan Tien Temple. May be it will be a last trip for us in this month, after that all of us will be busy preparing our study.

GOD is GOOD - A WONDERFUL EXPLANATION

Kadang kita bertanya dlm hati & menyalahkan
Tuhan, "apa yg telah saya lakukan sampai
saya harus mengalami ini semua?" atau "kenapa
Tuhan membiarkan ini semua terjadi pada saya?"

....... Here is the wonderful explanation ......

Seorang anak memberitahu ibunya kalau segala

menawarkan apakah anaknya mau mencicipinya,
"dengan senang hati" dia berkata:
"Tentu saja, I love your cake."
"Nih, cicipi mentega ini," kata Ibunya menawarkan.
"Yaiks," ujar anaknya.
"Bagaimana dgn telur mentah?"
"You're kidding me, Mom."
"Mau coba tepung terigu atau baking soda?"
"Mom, semua itu menjijikkan. "

Lalu Ibunya menjawab, "ya, semua itu memang
kelihatannya tidak enak jika dilihat satu per
satu. Tapi jika dicampur jadi satu melalui satu
Seringkali
kita bertanya kenapa Dia membiarkan kita melalui
masa-masa yang sulit dan tidak menyenangkan.
Tapi Tuhan tahu jika Dia membiarkan semuanya
terjadi satu per satu sesuai dengan rancanganNya,
segala sesuatunya akan menjadi sempurna tepat
pada waktuNya. Kita hanya perlu percaya proses
ini diperlukan untuk menyempurnakan hidup kita.

Tuhan teramat sangat mencintai kita. Dia
mengirimkan bunga setiap musim semi, sinar
matahari setiap pagi.
kita.

Presentation

There is a presentation assessment in ALS subject. I had prepared it since two weeks ago, because I think I need to understand the topic before I do the presentation. At the beginning, I had a problem understanding what we need to present. Are we present about the topic or the review of the journal? Our teacher didn’t explain it clearly to us, she just asked us to find a journal, and gave a sheet of journal overview. But after I asked she, I knew that I must present about the journal, not the topic. I have never done such kind of presentation before, so it spent more time than usual for prepare it. Today, I am the first one who doing the presentation. Even that I used to do some presentation before, but actually this is the first time I do it in English, so I feel nervous. I presented about transforming from face-to-face to online instruction, I choose this because it is my study background, so I hope that I can mastered this topic easily than others. I think that my presentation is going well, not so bad, with some mistakes of course. Such as: actually I know what icebreaker is, but because I want to use more academic language so I asked the teacher what type is icebreaker belong to. I realized there is a big mistake because I am the presenter, why I asked teacher, while at this time she is an audience. There are 3 other presentations after mine, and what they presented was different with mine. Because they focused on the topic, they did not discussed much about the journal, so I was scared, am I doing a wrong one. When I am listening to other student presentation, I realize that it is better to use simple sentence, than complex sentence and a lot of technical words, because not every one of our audience understand it. Then, teacher told us that we need to discussed more about the journal, not focus on the topic, may be next time the teacher need to explain more clearly the task to students. I hope that next time when I am doing a presentation again, I can do it better than today.

Critical Analysis

One of my subjects in ETS class is Critical Literacy. In this subject, we learn how to read, look , and analyze an article that we read critically. Everyday I read newspaper, article or a book, but I did not think and realized that I need to be such criticize. Normally, I followed what had been written by the author and then I applied that idea if I thought that idea was good. I never though about who is the writer, what is her/his purpose, or to whom this article was written. After learn about the critical analysis, I realized that it is good to analyze more an article or the writer before I decided to acknowledge it. The first time I am practicing it, I found that this is not easy. I need to read more than four times, try to understand the whole message. Even that I have read it for several times, sometimes I still have different interpretation of an article if I compared it with my friend. It can be caused of our background knowledge, the way of thinking, and translation into our own mother language. By practicing critical analysis, I understand more an article than what is written. At the same manner I try to put myself into the writer view, what will I do if I were him/her. I think it can help me to analyze and understand it in more objective view. I think it is good for me to practice more criticize in my daily life. So I can perform better result and make a good decision. I think that if everyone try to be more criticize, then the value of the society will increase.

Useful Activity and Practicing English

Today, I supposed to have my first aid training in Red Cross, but because of do not have enough member, the class was postponed. So this morning I changed my plan, and I went to the Nan Tien Temple in Unanderra for volunteering. This will become my weekly activity, do some volunteering job. I am helping in the division of Pagoda . Here, I need to give a candle to the visitor, the symbol of our condolence to the victim of China earthquake, and if they want to try to write some calligraphy I need to write some example then they could followed me. There is a lot of visitor in this Sunday, some of them are local people, some of them are from Thailand, India, Japanese or Europe. When I talked with the visitor, I can learn a lot. I tried my best to remember the word and the sentence that they used, I copied it and tried to practice it. Today I also meet a Australia man, who may be is more than 50 years old also a volunteer. When we had our lunch, I really surprised that he known a lot about Buddhism, may be he knows more than me. At the evening, I have a Sunday relax class, teacher teach us how to do Tai Chi and meditation. This is good way to practice concentration, patience and tolerance. I am the youngest in this class, most of the student is local people who are more than 40 years old. Even that they are not Chinese or Buddhist, but they like and appreciate this culture. I really glad that all of us learn together, learn how to tolerance, have a more patient, and share our metta ( love and kindness). I really happy that I have a chance to experience all of this where I can spent my time doing something useful for other, also learn and practice English.

Gila banget neh !!!!
Pemerintah Indo menaikan tagihan listrik hampir sebesar 2.5x tagihan sebelumnya.
Efeknya :
1. Daya Beli turun
2. Pengusaha mengalami penurunan laba sampai mengalami kerugian
3. Pengurangan Karyawan sudah sangat mendesak (pengangguran dimana2)
4. kenaikan semua kebutuhan hidup
5. Demo Anti SBY-JK dimana2
Terus pemerintah Mau minta pengusaha naikin gaji karyawan. Pengusaha aja terancam bangkrut dan main PHK masih minta naikin gaji karyawan, ini kan mustahil namanya.
Efek Listrik aja belum reda masih main BBM, benar2 nga punya otak.

Kenaikan BBM - BLT

Topik hangat sekarang ini adalah Kenaikan BBM dan BLT (Bantuan Langsung Tunai)
Sumber : http://tv.kompas.com/berita/metropolitan/warga_miskin_versi_bps_langka_di_jakarta.html#josc5617

Ga tau neh, rasanya sedih aja melihat Indonesia begini.

Planning a research

It is not easy to do a research. We must plan it carefully, so the result is the best answer for the question.

Step in planning a research :
1. Analyse the question
Don't do it aimlessley, we need to analyse deeply, what is our purpose, what is the question. After we understand what is the question and what we want to write, then we will have the main idea or headings of the questions. Write down your headings, as a first step before we start research. I can keep your research on track, follow the headings.

2. Using books and libraries
Good researcher, they will take an aggresive action to mining the information they want. When writing a research essay, we rarely have enough time to read all the book. So, just look at the table of content, and book's index, find out the key words that fit with our topic, then read only that passages in text where the words occur. Collect all the sources and arrange them good in a filling cabinet. It make you easier when you need to read them for future information.

* Computer and database systems
There has been a lot of computer database available through internet. We can find the newest book, or journal, which is up to date, current issues.

* Primary and secondary resource
Secondary resource is written by people who have only a second-hand knowledge of the subject. They compile all the work done by who have direct experience, it also called literature review.

3. Reading and absorbing
After collect all the sources, we start our reading and absorbing. Don't read too quick, because we are not skimming, or looking for key words, we need to understand and absorb what is the idea of the author.

4. Start writing
Start to write the thesis, and we will discuss it later.

Hope that this information can help you to plan your research.

English as Second Language

Studying in Wollongong using English as main language in daily conversation really good for my English. I am using English when speaking, writing, reading and listening. But I think that it is not easy, especially in writing and speaking. Reading is easier than listening, because what I need to do is read, then translate it in my first language, Indonesia, then I know and understand what the text is. But in listening, I need to pay more attention to listen to the speaker. Sometimes the accent and different pronunciation, or they speak too fast, make me do not understand what are they said. While in writing and speaking, it is more difficult. Let’s discuss about speaking first. In speaking, I found that my pronunciation is not so good. And I am also using the wrong tenses. Example, have you ate? I am always using that sentences, but I think that there is something wrong with the grammar. That should be ‘have you eaten?’ but I feel strange to asking someone have u eaten? But may be I can change it to ‘have you had your lunch’. This is better than have you ate. Now, let’s talk about writing. I found that not easy to write something. Even that I have an idea, what I want to write, but after I wrote that, it feels like something wrong. May be because of my ideas are in Indonesia language, and I try to translate it. So the grammar, or the meaning of what I want to share is not clear. I am feel that this is not exactly what I want to write. So, I tried to borrow some Grammar book from library. I hope that with read more about grammar can give me more idea what the correct one is. And I also hope that my teacher can correct me, if there is another good way or sentence to express my idea.

Differences in one group

I have studying ETS-10 in Wollongong College about one week. One of our study activities is group discussion; usually we are divided into a group of 4. Because all of us are International Students, so definitely in one group we have more than one nationality. For the example, my group in CL class consists of China, Iran and Indonesia nationality. We cannot use our first language to talk with others, and we need to make other members understand what we want to say. Actually it is interesting, not only good for us to practice our English but also develop our self-confidence. But at the first time, I got shocked and nervous. I prefer to keep silent and listening than speaking to them. Because we come from different country, our accent is different. I need to spend more time and attention listening what are they talking about, and understanding what is the meaning. I am also afraid, may be they won’t understand what I am talking about, or am I pronounced it right. So we try to speak slowly and clearly word by word, than it makes us easier to understand each other. Usually, we are not only discussing about the topic that teacher gave to us, but also our culture, target and major in University, experience in Australia, and our living environment. In the discussion, I know more about other county cultures, and learn the way they think and solve a case. May be some of our cultures are same, but some are different. I realize that our background and nationality influence to our lifestyle, habit and thinking way, we are look at a same problem with different point of view. It is really a good experience, I do not only learning English but also have a new knowledge about other countries.

Are You Overweight?

Obesity is recognised by the World Health Organisation as a 'worldwide epidemic'.

Are you overweight? As we are all different shapes and sizes, there is not one recommended weight for your height.Instead there are a range of weight that are healthy for yout height.

Previously, we usually measure our average appropriate weight using :

Appropriate Weight = Height - 100(for man) or Height - 110( for woman)

But, it is not too suitable using for people under 140 or lower. There is other way to check your ratio of weight to height, known as your BMI ( Body Mass Index ).

BMI = Weight / (Height * Height)
Where the weight is in Kilogram, and height in Meters.
Note :
- it design only for man and woman over than 18 years old.
- Suitable for Asian, and Caucasian

BMI result :
>> less than 18.5 = underweight
>> 18.5 to 24.9 = normal
>> 25 to 29.9 = overweight
>> 30 to 40 = obese

Here is the example :
My weight : 54.5 kg
My height : 168 cm = 1.68m

BMI = 54.5 / (1.68*1.68) = 54.5 / 2.8224 = 19.31
It's mean i am normal

Then how about you ??
